I came across this thread just now on Etsy, and it's given me food for thought.
For those not super familiar with Etsy, the Featured Seller is a regular column that, well... features a seller. It's a fixture right there on the front page, and interviews stay posted there for 2 or 3 days, then gets archived for further viewing later. Basically, it brings that particular seller a huuuuuge amount of exposure for free.
Lots of people have commented in the forums over time that they'd love to be a featured seller, but the thread I came across tonight was the first (that I can remember) that really put it into perspective. And it got me thinking.
Would I love to be a Featured Seller? Yep. Am I in any way prepared to be a Featured Seller, should that opportunity ever arise? Nope. I'm pretty sure that if that happened, my brain would implode, and I'd faint and hit my head on the desk, then slump out of my chair and stay there till someone found me days later, thus missing the whole to-do.
Okay, not really. Maybe the fainting would happen, but I'm pretty sure I'd regain consciousness once I hit my head or fell out of my chair.
The thread had a lot of really good points, though, that I think anyone can apply to their shop at any time. The one that caught my attention first is stocking up on boxes and mailers and materials. I'm currently assessing what I need more of for any potential holiday sales, and am getting things together (hence why I spent days reorganizing my office). I think it's a good idea to have this done now, so I'm not scrambling, waiting for much needed shipments to arrive, or facing shipping delays later. And even if there is no holiday rush, I'm set for the Spring! Really, it's win-win.
The other point that struck home was to work on your photos now. Photos are a constant struggle, and maybe they should be. How can you sell something online without photos, right?
Anyway, it's a good read with several excellent points. I think if I ever got chosen, I would probably spend the whole time holding my breath, waiting to wake up from a really nice dream. How would you handle it? And what are you doing (if anything) to prepare for a holiday rush?

Well Brandi - I certainly hope you are given the opportunity to find out if you can handle being the Featured Seller. You deserve it!
BTW, I think you would do fine and you would sell tons of jewelry.

Sadly, I've long since given up the idea of being a featured seller. Whatever "it" is that draws Etsy to pick featured sellers, I clearly don't have it. :(
Regardless, a lot of the things listed in that thread are very to point. I learned that from my Daily Candy feature last year...and I was very glad to have had tons of extras of everything! :)
